Families In Need of Direction

The F I N D Program is a program of The Criminal Justice Office of the Diocese of Orlando. F I N D –Families In Need of Direction is a three hour interactive program for first time juvenile offenders and their parents.

Hour One: The Certified F I N D Instructor reviews the Juvenile Justice System with the first time juvenile offender and their parent(s) by utilizing a flow chart of what happens from the time the juvenile is arrested to the final outcome. They then view a 15 minute A & E Video Tape entitled JUVIES -A look inside a Juvenile Detention Facility.

Hour Two and Three: The students and parents are separated.

The Parent Instructor presents interactive information for the parents on the following subjects:

• Developing a healthy relationship with your child.

• Communicating with your child.
• Dealing with an out of control child.
• Domestic Violence between child and parent.
• Substance Abuse Issues.
• Community Resources.

The FIND Instructor presents interactive information for first time juvenile offenders on the following subjects:

• Learning from others and setting goals for life.

• Building a positive attitude, self esteem, and respect.
• Review the Keys to Better Character.
• Making better choice by committing to memory the Ethical Decision

Making Process and learning to live by the "Golden Rule".

• Communicating with your parents and important words to remember.

Last 15 minutes Parents and Youth are reunited. Youth recite the Oath of Honor and receive their Certificate of Completion.
