NEW HOPES - Helping Other Parents Experience Support

MISSION STATEMENT

"NEW HOPES" is a program developed by parents for parents. The program provides education, resources, and support for parents who are struggling with their troubled youth. The purpose of the program is to help parents through difficult family situations by providing peer support and community resources. It is the collaborative effort of parents, schools, churches of all of all faiths, community and civic organizations, and law enforcement agencies that form the "NEW HOPES" Network.

"NEW HOPES" WORKSHOPS

A "NEW HOPES" Workshop provides educational seminars for parents, grandparents, teachers, school counselors and anyone directly involved with at-risk youth. Issues such as alcohol and drug abuse, anger, truancy, domestic violence, relationships, communication, violence in schools, gang activity, and many others are included in a one-day "NEW HOPES" Workshop. A panel of parents who have struggled with their own kids begin each workshop to help attendees understand they are not alone and that there is hope.

To plan a "NEW HOPES" Workshop for your parish or school, call the Criminal Justice Office - Diocese of Orlando at (407) 470-1971

THE "NOT MY KID" PROGRAM

The "NOT MY KID" Program is a presentation for parents and educators that provides the latest facts and information on issues facing our youth today. Topics include drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence, the media, music, and the Internet. All children and adolescents take risks. However, some risky activities and behaviors threaten their health and well-being. Communication must be our top priority with our children.

To plan a "NOT MY KID" presentation, call the Criminal Justice Office- Diocese of Orlando at (407) 470-1971

COMMENTS

"There are days you feel all alone when you're going through tough times with your teenager. Parents must take care of themselves before they can help their child."

"Many parents struggle with life…being pulled in different directions. We must remember that our kids must be our top priority."
